There are many tasks that aren’t easily replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) — building trust with clients or delivering an argument in court, for instance. But there are ways that AI tools can benefit a law firm, particularly when it comes to the automation of repetitive tasks.
However, not all AI tools are created equal. Some AI tools are meant for content creation. Others are meant for case management. Others are for social media marketing. Some can help with accounting, invoicing, and financial reporting. The use cases are nearly endless.
In this guide, we’ll share a few of our favorite AI tools and their specific applications to your law firm’s operations.
How can AI Tools Benefit Your Law Firm?
Even with its limitations, AI can bring many benefits to law firms. AI tools are not just “robots” that spit out formulaic answers; they can be trained to accomplish complicated tasks, learn your business, and even “understand” your unique brand positioning, voice, and audience.
With that, here are just a few of the many benefits that AI tools can bring to your law firm:
Increased efficiency:
AI tools allow you to automate routine tasks, repurpose existing documents, and otherwise save time in your business, which allows your team to focus on higher-value, strategic work.
Cost savings:
By automating repetitive tasks and streamlining your internal processes, you’ll have lower operating costs and less overhead.
Less human error:
AI tools analyze data, research, documents, and the like at scale, with high precision. This helps reduce the instances of manual errors by a human team.
Improved legal strategy:
AI tools can conduct comprehensive legal research by scanning vast databases, identifying relevant precedents, and providing data-driven insights to inform your legal strategy.
Better client service:
AI-driven virtual assistants and chatbots can respond to leads and/or existing clients 24/7, 365 days per year. A faster response time can contribute to greater client satisfaction.
Increased marketing ROI:
Some AI tools can be used to create marketing collateral, content, and campaigns, which cuts downs on costs compared to outsourcing this work to a professional. AI can also help you optimize your campaigns, leading to better results and improved ROI.
Streamlined case management:
There are many AI-driven case management solutions available to help you ditch your complicated client management system and instead streamline intake, follow-up, invoicing, document gathering, and more through automation.

As a law firm marketing agency, we’re familiar with many of the AI tools available to help law firms streamline their business processes. With so many tools on the market, though, it’s hard to know which are the best. That’s why we’ve provided our list of the best tools (and how to use them)!
ChatGPT
Perhaps the most popular AI tool, ChatGPT has many uses. It can be used to help lawyers generate legal documents, draft emails, create content (like web pages or blog posts), craft social media captions, and even write up contracts. It can also be used to come up with marketing ideas, such as blog post topics, social media hashtags, email campaigns, and paid ad copy.
We highly recommend the paid version of ChatGPT, as this unlocks a wider range of features. For example, you have the ability to train the AI on internal docs, and can create custom GPT tools for your firm.

What is the Cost of Implementing AI Software?
AI software implementation costs vary based on application type, customization needs, number of users, and the level of subscription. Many AI tools have several plan options. When in doubt, contact a representative at the company for an accurate cost estimate (including subscription, installation, and integration).
For some rough numbers, here’s what most mid-sized law firms can expect to spend on the following tools:
- ChatGPT: $240 annually
- Crunchbase: $559 annually
- Clio: $828 annually
- Fastcase: $995 annually
- Surfer SEO: $1,188 annually
You may choose to subscribe to multiple tools, depending on your needs. A cost-benefit analysis can help you assess the financial costs/rewards of implementing an AI tool. Discuss these matters with your accounting team.
Examples of Law Firms Using AI Tools
By this point you can see that there are many AI tools, with many different use cases for each. But you might be wondering what this actually looks like for a real law firm. Below, we’ve provided a few examples of how AI tools might be used to improve your business.
-
Legal precedent analysis for a new case
Your law firm is working on a case that involves a novel legal issue, and you need to understand the relevant precedents and case law.
You use an AI tool like ROSS Intelligence to conduct legal research, and identify relevant cases, statutes, and legal opinions. ROSS is able to analyze and summarize the information, providing your team with a comprehensive overview of relevant precedents. This allows you to build a strong case with confidence.
-
Predictive analytics for your civil litigation case
Say your law firm is representing a client in a civil dispute. You have a few options in terms of your strategy, so you want to play out the scenarios. You need to assess the potential outcomes of the case based on similar cases.
You turn to predictive analytics tools to analyze historical case data. With the help of AI, these tools consider factors such as judge rulings, case law, and specific case details. You then receive predictions regarding possible case outcomes. With this information, you’re able to decide on the strategy regarding settlement negotiations and your trial argument.
-
Sentiment analysis for jury selection
Your law firm is preparing for trial and you want to understand the potential biases and sentiments of prospective jurors.
You can use AI-powered sentiment analysis tools (like Semantria) to make informed decisions during the jury selection process. AI tools can analyze publicly available information about potential jurors, such as social media posts, comments, and online activity. By assessing sentiments and potential biases, your firm can contribute to a fairer and more strategic trial strategy.
-
Better project and team management
Your law firm is handling a complex legal case involving multiple teams working on different aspects of the case, from research to document review to case filing. You need a way to streamline project management, facilitate collaboration among team members, and ensure all tasks get done by deadline.
You use an AI-driven project management tool, Project Assist, to monitor the progress of each task and encourage communication across your team. The tool also generates reports summarizing project progress and team performance, allowing you to resolve issues as they arise. With AI, you are able to simplify the project management process and conclude your case without a hitch!
AI tools help law firms increase efficiency, save money, and improve client satisfaction, with applications ranging from marketing to project management to finances. But the best solution for your business is always a strategic partner. At Hennessey Digital, we partner with law firms to develop effective marketing solutions, often leveraging AI in the ways that have the most impact.
